CRAFT registered an amazing success with a clinical pregnancy rate of 45.7% in 2002-2004. When compared to ART Registry of USA for 2002, the clinical pregnancy rate quoted is 34.8% for fresh nondonor embryos (CDC Reproductive Health 2002). What makes this so special is that it's CRAFT's policy not to use donor gametes or embryos. With a proven track record of providing specialised medical services for the treatment to infertility patients using assisted reproductive techniques, CRAFT is India's first ISO 9001:2000 Fertility Centre. This success rate acknowledges our philosophy - 'honesty pays in the long run'.

ICSI Programme

Kerala's First
Frozen Embryo Kids

Mrs. Sameera Ansary, a native of Cochin aged 35 years desiring conception for the past 10 years gave birth to twin babies on the 24th of November 2004 at 11 AM at the Centre for Research in Assisted Reproduction and Foetal Therapy (CRAFT), K.J Hospital Complex, Kodungallur. The male and female babies born weighing 1.7 kgms and
2 kgms hold the distinction of being Kerala’s first Frozen-thaw embryo transfer (FET) delivery. Both the babies are fine after delivery. The mother required caesarian section during delivery for obstetric reasons.

Mrs. Sameera Ansary underwent her first ICSI (Intra cytoplasmic sperm injection) cycle in February 2004. She had spare embryos, which were frozen and stored at CRAFT. Her first attempt by ICSI did not yield a positive result. At CRAFT we usually transfer a maximum of 4 embryos per patient. In case of couples having extra good quality embryos these can be frozen in Liquid Nitrogen at –196 degree Celsius for subsequent use. This avoids unnecessary wastage of embryos nor there arises the need for donating patient’s own embryos. This FET cycle will not require expensive hormonal injection or specialized procedures like ICSI again in the frozen embryo transfer cycle.

A remarkable achievement we had was a clinical pregnancy in one patient Mrs. XY 43 yrs who had Previous 10 Unsuccessful attempts of ICSI from various centers including UK, UAE, Mumbai etc had a successful pregnancy from here after HLT [Husband's lymphocyte transfer] therapy for Immune Infertility and followed by ICSI.

In the last 2 weeks of March 2004 we had 18 babies born to 13 couples who had IVF - ICSI in July 2003 giving a delivery rate of 44%. In this month we had 28 cases for ART and 15 of them conceived. One had abortion at 7 weeks & another had ectopic. The rest 13 went for term delivery.
